Murungai - Kutti vengaya (Drumstick & Pearl Onion) Sambar





Ingredients:

Drumsticks - 1
Pearl Onions(skin peeled off) - 1 cup
Toor dal - 1 cup
tumeric - 1/4 tspoon
sambar powder - 2 tspoons
mustard -1/4 tspoon
salt - to taste
tamarind pulp - 1 cup (light pulp made from a lemon sized tamarind)
sugar - 1/4 tspoon
fresh coriander
oil - 1 tspoon

Preparation Method :

Step1 : Pressure cook toor dal and drumsticks with turmeric added.

Step2: In a cooking pot add 1 tspoon of oil , add mustard seeds when it splutters add the pearl onions and fry until it turns light brown and then add the sambar powder, tamarind pulp stir well and let it boil for 7-8 mins.

Step3: add the cooked dal and drumstick. Add salt and sugar and boil for another 5-6 mins and remove from heat.

Step4: add the finely chopped fresh coriander on the top.

Goes well with Rice , Idly, Dosa & Upma
