Onion chutney / Thuvaiyal








Ingredients :


Onions - 2 Big(chopped) or Pearl Onions peeled (1 Cup)

Urad Dal -  2 tsp's
Asafoetida - 1/2 tsp
Redchilles - 4-5
Tamarind - 1tsp 
Mustard Seeds - 1/2 tsp
Salt - 3/4 tsp
Oil - 3 tsp's ( gingely oil gives more aroma and taste)

Preparation Method :


Step 1 :  Place a kadai / Pan on the stove add 1 tsp of Gingley oil once it gets heated add Urad dal , Red chillies (broken into pieces) , asafoetida and roast it for 3-4 mins.


Step 2 : Add the onions now and fry it until it turns brown . Switch Off the Stove and let them cool down to room temperature.


Step 3 : Now take the entire contents in a blender jar add Salt and tamarind and grind it coarsely or into fine paste (by adding  a lil water) as per your choice . 


Step 4 : Now to the Tempering heat 2 tsp's of oil and add mustard seeds once it splutters pour it on the chutney and mix.


Serve with Idli, Dosa , Adai,  and Rice if coarsely ground .
